Who
they are: The Alachua County
Sheriff’s Office has a Victim Advocate Unit.
What
they do: The Victim Advocate Unit
helps victims of crimes in many ways, including emotional
support and help making sense of the criminal justice
system.
What
YOU can do to help: Volunteers are needed
to provide emotional support for victims, provide community
referrals and resource information, assist victims in filing
for Crime Victim Compensation, provide updates on case status,
and accompany victims to court proceedings. Anyone at least 18 years old
who has completed a background check through the Human
Resources Bureau at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and a
volunteer application can volunteer. The background check takes
about 4 weeks to finish. Contact Sara Larsen for a
volunteer application.
