What
they do: ConKerr Cancer is an
organization that makes bright cheery pillowcases for children
in the hospital.
These children are at Shands or AGH for cancer treatment or
have other life changing illnesses. The mission of ConKerr Cancer
is to make life brighter for children with life changing
injuries or illnesses.
What
YOU can do to help: Volunteers are needed
to either donate fabric that can be used to make pillowcases,
or to actually buy the fabric and make the pillowcases
themselves.
Finished pillowcases or fabric donations can be dropped off at
A-1 Sewing, 2005 NW 43rd St., Gainesville, FL (in
the Publix shopping center on the corner of 43rd and
16th).
Directions for making the pillowcases are as
follows:
-
Use cheery fabrics – as colorful and fun as possible
-
Remember many patients are adolescent boys and girls, so
there is always a need for pillowcases appropriate to
teenagers
-
Cotton or flannel fabrics only
-
Please wash the fabrics before sewing the
pillowcases
-
After finishing each pillowcase, place it in its own clear
Ziploc bag.
