What they do: The Downtown Festival & Art Show is held each fall along the streets leading from the Hippodrome State Theatre to City Hall. The festival is open to the public and free to attend. Each year 100,000 people attend the festival. In addition to the multitude of paintings (watercolors, acrylics, oils), ceramics, sculpture, photography, and jewelry, there is live, continuous entertainment by dance companies, solo musicians, and local bands. There are activities for children at the “Imagination Station” and Jr. Fire Fighting Challenge and delicious food and refreshments.

What YOU can do to help: Volunteers are needed (individuals, organizations, or businesses) in the following areas:

Booth sitting – greeting and relieving artists for breaks

Children’s Imagination Station – painting, mask design, sidewalk chalk drawing, puppets, button making, sculpting

Artist Check-in – greet artists and provide information materials

Jr. Fire Fighting Challenge – children’s obstacle course

Greeters – welcome guests to the festival, provide programs and simple directions

Survey Takers – engage guests in a brief survey on their experience at the festival
