Who they are: Guardian Ad Litems are
volunteers who are court appointed to advocate for the
best interests of children in the dependency court
system. Each Guardian Ad Litem familiarizes his or
herself with the child and the child’s case and then
makes recommendations to the court to make sure the child
is in an environment that is caring, stable, permanent,
and safe. More specifically, they collect
information; interview foster parents, family, teachers,
and people in the children’s lives; work with community
partners to make sure children are receiving the support
and help they need; make recommendations in the court;
and communicate the needs of the
children.
What YOU can do to help: If you would
like to volunteer to be a Guardian Ad Litem and be a
champion for a neglected or abused child, contact Renee
Marshall. Note that there is no legal or special
background required for this volunteer position.
Training will be provided.
