Who they are: The Ronald McDonald
House of Gainesville strives to be recognized throughout
the local community and surrounding areas as "The House
that Love Built" by providing superior facilities and
services to families of seriously ill children. Ronald
McDonald House of Gainesville is a non-profit
organization. Ronald McDonald House of Gainesville
has 30 rooms and often has a waiting list for families
with critically ill children that are receiving care at
local area medical facilities. The House's
occupancy averages over 90% and the need remains
constant.

What YOU can do to help: Volunteers
are needed in the following areas:
Long-Term Volunteer
Opportunities:
Front Desk Host at the House:
answer phones, interact with the public and the
families at the House, facilitate arrival and
departure of guests (in addition to application and
interview, requires 8-16 hrs of training and a
commitment to volunteer for 2 4-hr shifts a month for
6 months)
Host at the Ronald McDonald Family
Room located at Shands UF Children's Hospital:
provide books and games for children, put drinks and
snacks out, answer phones, monitor activities of the
room (in addition to application and interview,
requires Shands Online Volunteer Orientation, copy of
immunization and medical records, 4-hr training
shift, and a commitment to volunteer for 2 4-hr
shifts a month for 6 months)
Short-Term Volunteer
Opportunities:
Kitchen Angel: organize and clean the
kitchens
Play Room Angel: supervise children’s
play time (this must be done with another
volunteer)
Chore Day Sponsor: choose a morning
or afternoon to bring a group to do chores at the
House
Lawn helper
Visiting Chef: purchase and prepare a
dinner for 40-50 people at the House (limit of 10 people
helping in the kitchen)

Create holiday decorations or gift
bags
Bake cookies --at the House or
prepare a dessert or snack food
Organize a fund-raising event to
benefit the House: car wash, bake sale, etc.
Collect pop tabs from aluminum
soft drink cans and donate them to the House;
Organize a collection at your dorm, workplace, or
club
Collect travel size toiletries
(toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, lotions) for
families staying at the House
If you would like to volunteer at the Ronald
McDonald House, please fill out the Volunteer
Application Form and return it to the
Volunteer/Program Coordinator. You will then be
contacted to schedule an
interview.
