Food4Kids Backpack Program of North Florida is a nonprofit organization that collects food to give to schoolchildren over the weekends and extended breaks from school if they are identified as being at risk of not receiving meals otherwise.
Contact: (352) 514-0281
Who they are: In 2010, at Terwilliger Elementary School, Jennifer Moore started a Food4Kids Backpack Program. In 2011, Todd Morrone and Jennifer Moore founded Food4Kids Backpack Program of North Florida, Inc. This program is modeled after the National Feeding America Backpack Program. One of their guiding principals is that they envision “No More Hungry Children.”
What they do: Food4Kids Backpack Program targets those children who are at risk for not getting food over weekends and extended breaks from school. These children receive backpacks each Friday filled with enough food for 7 meals. Then on Monday, these backpacks are returned to the schools to get filled with food again for the weekends.
